W 10 × D 3 × H 18 CMWet clay is sliced in two with a handheld wire. The undulating rhythm of the hands of the maker produce a wave like texture, each tablet produces two tiles, perfect mates, but complete opposites. Face to face. Architectural tiles and furniture produced from these works. Working within the traditional and guarded Barro Negro techniques from a master craftsman and Bruñidos in Oaxaca, the clay is fired in a pit kiln and reducing environment when oxygen is cut off from the fires, smoke builds in the kiln, and plummets right through the clay bodies to imbue them with a black oxide reaction.
